In Plymouth, a town of 134 square miles, is served by 140 firefighters operating out of 7 fire stations. According to Fire Chief Neil Foley, back in April 2020 Town Meeting voted to address 3 fire stations: West Plymouth Fire Station, Manomet Fire Station and the Bourne Road Fire Station. The West Plymouth project has been completed, and on Thursday, November 13th town officials celebrated the remodeling and renovation of the Manomet Fire Station.

Fire Chief Neil Foley talks about the increase in call volume:
“Plymouth in general is just growing. Right now, this year, to date, we’re about 10% higher in call volume than we were last year, and year over year, I think, since 2018, we’ve had about a 50% increase in calls—which just really speaks to the growth of this community and the demand it’s having on our services.”
So what was done in Manomet?
“There was a substantial addition that was added to that building, which allows for more personnel to be housed out of there so that we can have an additional engine company maybe,or a ladder company, another ambulance, so that we can account for the growth of that community.”
Chief Foley says the station is built to…
“…take into consideration firefighter health and wellness. So knowing that you are getting exposed to hazardous chemicals and different health issues, when we’re responding to calls, now that facility is built so that when they come back from those incidents, they can properly decontaminate themselves, their gear and keep everything isolated and away from the living quarters which is in keeping with NFPA standards, the National Fire Protection Agency and OSHA standards as well.”
