Brockton mayoral candidate Jean Bradley Derenocourt has withdrawn his election fraud lawsuit against the city.

In a facebook posting Wednesday, Derenoncourt stated he dropped the lawsuit “after careful consideration and utmost regard for the city of Brockton’s well-being.”

He explained his decision was made because a lengthy and contentious legal battle would cost the city considerable legal fees to what he said was a substantial financial burden already facing the city.

Derenoncourt lost the November fourth mayor’s race to Moises Rodrigues by 260 votes.

Derenoncourt demanded a recount that ultimately found he lost by 259 votes instead of the 260 as reported on election night.

During the recount, Derenoncourt challenged the validity of absentee and mail-in ballots and accused Rodrigues’s supporters of coercing voters.

Derenoncourt said while he firmly believes the will of the voters was compromised by quote “the unethical and illegal behavior that transpired in the election,” further legal action would exacerbate an already fractured city.

Derenoncourt stated that he will move forward in a positive manner, prioritizing the well-being of Brockton.
