Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey will not be seeking reelection.
Morrissey, a former state senator, has served as the DA for the past 15 years.
In a statement Monday, Morrissey says he is “extremely proud” of the work he has accomplished and feels it is time to start a new chapter in his life.
He said he ran for the DA’s office to stand up for victims and give them a voice.
Morrissey went on to thank those who supported him including the Norfolk Advocates for Children, the Norfolk County school systems, and the district attorney’s Substance Use and Drug-Free Community Coalition partners.
Morrissey’s office came under fire over the handling of the recent Karen Read murder case.
There are several candidates seeking Morrissey’s office in this year’s election.
