The South Shore is joining the nation in celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Martin Luther King Day on Monday.

Celebrations begin Saturday in Brockton. The Brockton Area NAACP is hosting its 40th annual MLK Breakfast at the Envision Hotel in Mansfield from 9 a.m. to noon. Brockton High School principal Kevin McCaskill is guest speaker.

The Plymouth For All committee is holding a three-day series of events beginning with a food drive Saturday at three locations: The Market at Pinehills, Church of The Pilgrimage in Town Square, and Stop & Shop on Samoset Street.

Volunteers are needed for a Habitat for Humanity project in Carver. 

On Sunday, the Plymouth Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church is hosting an interfaith service at 10 a.m.  At 4:30 p.m., the Academy Award winning film “Selma” will be shown at Plimouth Patuxet Museums.

The celebration concludes Monday morning at ten with a breakfast at Plymouth South High School followed by a performance in the Performing Arts Center.

The United Church of Christ in Norwell is hosting a Day of Learning and Music on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring discussion and music.

Quincy is having its annual MLK breakfast Morning morning at the Terrell Room on Quarry Street. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the event begins at 9 a.m. Retired Army Air Corps Brigadier General Enoch “Woody” Woodhouse of the famed 332nd fighter group of the Tuskegee Airmen is guest speaker. 

The Cohasset Clergy and Cohasset Diversity Committee are hosting the 22nd annual MLK Breakfast Monday morning at nine at Saint Stephens Episcopal Church on Highland Avenue. Reverend Edwin Daniel Johnson is guest speaker.

The First Baptist church in Hingham is holding “Historical and Social Reflections” Monday afternoon at three. Reverend Geoffrey Hicks will share how music empowered the movement for justice and equality. 

A Scituate Stands For Democracy rally is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday in front of Scituate Town Hall on Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Route 3A.

Hull No Place For Hate is hosting an interactive program at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hull Lifesaving Museum. Donations are requested for the Wellspring Multi-service Center.

In Duxbury, a Save Our Democracy rally will be held at noon Monday in Charlotte Bradford Memorial Square on Tremont Street.
