Rabbi Alfred Benjamin, of Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills in Milton, observed the beginning of Rosh Hashanah with an event Thursday night at the Hancock Adams Common in Quincy. Rosh Hashanah officially begins at sundown on Friday.
