In Plymouth, after months of COVID closure the Pilgrim Hall Museum reopens on Saturday, November 21.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark files this report:
Donna Curtin, Pilgrim Hall’s Director, says the museum has a long history.
“Pilgrim Hall Museum is the oldest continuously operating public museum in the United States. We have been open to the public for 196 years at this facility and our organization is even older,” said Curtin. “We celebrated our 200th birthday in this crazy year of 2020.”
The museum, in a normal year, is open February through December.
“We’re open in the dead of winter, here in New England, one of the few places you can visit in our area,” said Curtin. “But, this year, of course, we had to close in March when there was the shut-down here in Massachusetts.”
And, as a phase three institution per state guidelines, the museum was not allowed to open until late summer.
“We weren’t quite ready with feeling that we could offer a safe environment to the public, so it’s taken us a little bit longer,” said Curtin. “But we’re happy that we’re going to be able to open the doors before Thanksgiving, Saturday, November 21st is our first public day, and we will be open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday through December 19th, including on Thanksgiving Day.”
