A Chelsea man was taken into custody after being located in a Wareham home.
Police Chief John Walcek says that shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday Massachusetts Parole officers learned a man on parole for murder was staying at a home on Mason St. Ext. in Onset and requested assistance from Wareham Police to serve the warrant.
The suspect, 56-year-old Gino Gaillardetz, was also being investigated for another crime and had allegedly made comments that he wasn’t going to be sent back to jail.
It was determined that Gaillardetz was hiding in an attic space that couldn’t be safely accessed and the home was surrounded.
Assistance was provided by nearby off-duty officers, the SEMLEC SWAT Team, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Dept., Massachusetts State Police, and a Command Unit from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council.
The area was secured, with nearby homes being evacuated.
Gaillardetz was seen trying to escape before being taken into custody without incident.
Walcek says there was also a man who refused to evacuate and came to his front door with a firearm.
It was later determined that the man had a lawful firearms permit.
However, the permit and gun were seized pending further investigation.
