Duxbury School Superintendent John Antonucci is one of three finalists for the Superintendent of Schools in North Attleboro.
The Sun Chronicle reports that the North Attleboro school committee plans to pick a new superintendent when it meets on Thursday.
The three finalists are Duxbury School Superintendent John Antonucci, Frank Tiano of Uxbridge, and Peter Marano of Bellingham. The Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents assisted with the search.
The Duxbury schools have faced controversy in recent months. High school football coach Dave Maimaron was fired from that role after his team used anti-Semitic language on the field.
John Blake, a middle school teacher and high school hockey coach, was accused of rape by parents of a former student in 2006 – before Annonucci’s tenure. Blake was fired in April of this year. An independent investigation did not find direct evidence of sexual abuse, but did conclude that Blake violated District policy.
Antonucci met with the school committee to discuss the formation of an athletic advisory committee made of students and parents to advise the schools about ongoing issues.
Antonucci was hired in Duxbury in 2017 after serving as school superintendent in Westwood for 12 years. He holds a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Northeastern University, an MBA from Boston University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Tufts University. Final interviews are scheduled in person, but the public will only be able to participate in an online format.
The North Attleboro School Committee meets Thursday at 6 p.m.
