A Randolph man is facing charges following a police pursuit through Hingham and Weymouth on Friday.
Hingham Police say that at 1:13 PM, Weymouth Police reported a car had fled the scene of a crash and was last seen heading into Hingham on Fort Hill St.
A sergeant spotted the car, which had a flat tire, turning onto Lincoln St. and turned on his emergency lights and siren to stop the car.
Police say the car initially pulled over and drove over the curb onto the sidewalk on Lincoln St.
The driver then opened his door, leaned out the window while looking back at the police car, before closing the door and driving away.
A pursuit then ensued which went into Weymouth and saw the car weave back and forth over the yellow center lines , almost striking several oncoming cars and onto the sidewalk.
The car was eventually rammed and stopped.
The driver, identified as 20-year-old Sidney Clinton, allegedly refused to follow instructions from officers and continued to reach down under the seat out of view, eventually holding up his cell phone.
Police say he had a lethargic demeanor, slurred speech and the strong odor of burning marijuana coming from him.
Both Clinton and the Sergeant were transported to South Shore Hospital for evaluation, with both being released a short time later.
In addition Clinton’s car, a 2007 Nissan Sentra, and the unmarked police car, a 2019 Ford Police Interceptor, were towed from the scene.
Clinton is being charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs; Negligent Operation; Failing to Stop for Police; and Marked Lanes Violation.
He was released on personal recognizance to appear at Hingham District Court and a request was submitted to the Registry of Motor Vehicles that his license be suspended as an immediate threat.
