The Irish Flag was raised in front of Brockton City Hall as that country’s anthem played during a ceremony Thursday afternoon where Mayor Robert Sullivan discussed the challenges that many Irish immigrants, such as his ancestors, faced.
Plymouth County Register of Deeds John Buckley said that many Irish from the area accomplished great things, including former State Representative, and recently appointed U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, Claire Cronin.
City Council President John Lally said the holiday is an Irish celebration where all are welcomed to take part.
Mayor Sullivan also issued a proclamation declaring the day Irish Heritage Day in the City of Brockton.
