In Plymouth, in an editorial broadcast on WATD on the 11th, Selectman Betty Cavacco made statements quoting the Vice Chair of the Charter Commission, Laurance Pizer.
It appears she employed this quote to support the Select Board’s decision, initiated by Cavacco, to place non-binding questions about the type of Town government on the ballot. However, Mr. Pizer disagrees with the Selectman’s use of his words to further her agenda.
Bobbi Clark has more…
In her editorial Selectman Cavacco stated in part that..
“…some have taken issue with the Select Board’s decision to place non-binding questions regarding the form of Town government on the ballot at the next election. But those following the Charter Commission’s deliberations know that the reason for these questions was to address an issue raised by Vice Chair Larry Pizer at the Charter Commission meeting held on Sept. 20, 2021 when he said and I quote: “Believe me, we know that we want to do what the people want. The trick is figuring out what the people want.” So in order to give the Charter Commission the very information Mr.Pizer said they needed about what the people want, non-binding questions were proposed.”
Vice Chair of the Charter Commission, Laurance Pizer responds:
“The words that I stated, I think, quite clearly were in reference to what other Charter Commissioners were claiming and were not meant to say that there needs to be some sort of re-checking—after the fact of the public’s interest. The public stated their interest quite clearly in May of 2021 when they elected the Charter Commissioners.”
So, is it a true statement, Mr.Pizer, that Selectman Cavacco used your words out of context for her own purposes?
“Selectman Cavacco, I’m sure has an agenda, and she used things in furtherance of her agenda. All I can say is, there was no interest on my part when I stated those words in supporting a non-binding referendum.”
Selectman Cavacco told WATD that… “I disagree. I didn’t use his words out of context. I quoted him exactly.”
