Eleven indictments were handed down against a man charged with an ethnically motivated crime.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office says a grand jury issued the indictments against 56-year-old John F. Houlihan of Holbrook, for a May 10 attack on a neighbor who immigrated legally more than a decade ago.
The victim was parked in his driveway speaking on the phone when he was allegedly approached by Houlihan who banged on his closed window and demanded that he roll the window down before striking him repeatedly in the face.
The victim fled his vehicle and entered his residence where Houlihan allegedly followed to continue the attack, striking him with a bottle, knocking him to the ground and kicking him while telling the landlord that she should get “this (expletive) Russian” out of here.
The victim is not Russian.
Houlihan was found dangerous at a Quincy District Court dangerousness hearing on May 16, but released under conditions that include GPS monitoring, he stay out of Holbrook, and remain alcohol-free with testing.
Houlihan was indicted on charges of Mayhem (a 20-year penalty); Intimidation due to national origin; Civil Rights Violation; Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (bottle) – two counts; Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (shod foot); Assault and Battery causing serious injury; Assault and Battery on a person over age 60 – two counts; Entering a dwelling without breaking; and Entering a vehicle without breaking.
No date has been set for a Superior Court arraignment.
