One person has died following an early morning fire in Holbrook.
The state Fire Marshal’s Office says that at about 1:10 a.m. Friday crews responded to a 9-1-1 call and, upon arrival, observed smoke and flames showing from a three-story, multi-family home at 69 Belcher St.
The fire eventually reached four alarms and firefighters rescued a man and a woman, both older adults, from the building.
They were transported to an area hospital, where the man succumbed to his injuries.
Officials say preliminary evidence suggests that the fire began in the basement or on the first floor, but the incident remains under investigation.
Abington, Avon, Braintree, Brockton, Randolph, Rockland, Stoughton, Weymouth, and Whitman provided mutual aid at the scene and station coverage.
