Scituate Fire Department Press Release:
On Friday evening, March 24th at 7:53pm, the Scituate Emergency Communications Center received several 911 calls for a structure fire in the area of 70 Glades Road. Upon arrival, first command indicated that there were three homes on fire, resulting in a third alarm response being called for mutual aid assistance. The fire quickly spread to two additional homes. Subsequently, fourth and fifth alarms were struck for additional resources. The fire fighters on scene were able to contain the fire to five fully involved homes.
The homes in this area are very close together. Fortunately, the winds were fairly calm which minimized impact to additional homes. We would like to commend all of the public safety personnel on scene for their work in stabilizing the situation which could have become much worse. While the damage to property was significant, we are fortunate that there were no injuries to occupants or emergency personnel.
Emergency personnel remain on scene working to wet down hot spots and secure the damaged structures. The fire is currently under investigation by the Scituate Police and Fire Departments, in conjunction with Massachusetts State Police and the State Fire Marshall.
We empathize with those that lost their homes but are confident that our community will rally to provide assistance. The Red Cross and Scituate Community Christmas are working to provide transitional housing and support services. If you’re interested helping those impacted, please visit Scituate Community Christmas.
