Carver Police are investigating after officers recovered a stolen U-Haul truck with a stolen dirt bike in the rear.
Chief Marc Duphily says that shortly before 4:30 a.m. Thursday a caller told them two men on Wenham Shores Dr. were loading a four-wheeler all-terrain vehicle into the back of a U-Haul truck and that that there was a pair of bolt cutters on the seat of the ATV and that it looked suspicious.
While officers were en route a U-Haul truck passed them in the opposite lane of traffic on Center St. headed toward Main St.
The officers made a U-turn and followed.
The truck then turned into the parking lot of the Carver Public Library and the two men then fled the scene into the nearby woods.
Officers were unable to locate the suspect, a member of the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit was also called in, but they were also unable to locate the suspects.
Duphily says they recovered the dirt bike which had been stolen from a home on Tremont St. and the ATV was in the middle of the road on Wenham Shores Dr.
Both items were returned to their respective owners.
The U-Haul truck was reported stolen out of Taunton, and it’s believed the suspects are part of a group that has been stealing moving trucks and using them to steal dirt bikes, ATVs and other items.
