Two seasons ago, the Carver Crusaders football team went 0-4 in South Shore League play. Three seasons ago, Carver didn’t even have numbers to field a full team, instead joining a co-op program with the now defunct Sacred Heart School.
This Friday night, they’ll take the field in Mashpee with a chance to clinch their first league title outright since 2000 and finish the regular season an undefeated 8-0.
Behind a prolific offense and a much improved defense, the Crusaders have romped over the South Shore League Tobin Division and find themselves sitting at #2 in the Division 8 MIAA Power Rankings.
Two weeks from now, they’ll suit up for their first playoff game since walking off the turf at Nickerson Field on December 1, 2000; a Friday night on which they fell to Fairhaven 35-14 in the Division 4B state title game.

A strong season was not unexpected for Carver, who narrowly missed the playoffs last year with a squad led by its junior class.
That said, the dominance they have displayed thus far, now outscoring opponents 313 to 78 on the season, is a testament to the work the team put in this offseason.
The Crusaders’ senior captains, Tyler Lennox, Robbie Peterson, Jack Balzarini, James Callahan, and Jameson Helms ooze confidence. Yet none of it is hubris; the group knows exactly the effort and intensity that they must continue putting in to accomplish their lofty goals.
