Whitman, Hanson Trick-Or-Treaters Warned Of Bear Sighting

Trick-or-treaters in Whitman and Hanson were asked to be aware of another scary sight on Halloween, a bear.

Whitman Police say that at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday they received a report of a black bear in the area of Commercial St. between Linden St. and Dyer Ave.

An officer reported seeing the bear while responding to the scene and it was also spotted in town earlier in the month. 

Police say that so far there has been no contact or dangerous interactions between humans or household pets and the bear.

However, there was an additional police presence Tuesday night to ensure everyone’s safety during trick-or-treating hours.

Residents are also being told to leave the animal alone if sighted, to not intentionally feed them, never leave trash bags out instead store them in a secure building or container and put trash out the morning of pickup. and to check your yard before letting pets out.
