Crews were called to the scene of a fire in East Bridgewater Sunday afternoon.
Fire Chief Timothy Harhen says that at approximately 12:12 p.m., dispatchers received multiple 911 calls regarding a structure fire at 53 Old Bedford Rd.
Upon arrival, responders saw that the fire had spread to much of the home, which is described as a two-story, L-shaped dwelling.
Two of the home’s occupants, and their dog, were able to escape through the first-floor window.
The other two occupants were also able to escape, but there are currently four pet cats that are unaccounted for.
Abington, Bridgewater, Brockton, Hanson, West Bridgewater, and Whitman Fire Departments provided mutual aid while Halifax provided station coverage.
Officials say four people have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross while the building is considered a total loss.
The fire remains under investigation by the East Bridgewater Fire Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
