A “Stay Put” order was put in place at Silver Lake Regional High School on Friday.
Kingston Police say they responded to the school after the School Resource Officer found a shell casing, incapable of being fired, outside of the loading dock.
Police and school officials ordered the students to stay in their classrooms while officers conducted an investigation.
Classroom instruction continues as usual during a “Stay Put” order, but access to hallways is prohibited.
A search of the building and grounds was conducted with the help of a firearm/ballistics detection canine team and it resulted “in nothing additional of concern being located.”
Police say there is no evidence that suggests that a weapon was discharged on school grounds and the “Stay Put” was lifted and the school resumed its regular schedule for the day.
The incident remains under investigation.
