A sentence was handed down on Thursday for a Brockton man who unlawfully possessed a gun.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says that in June 43-year-old Michael Whitfield pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 6, 2023 where law enforcement responded to a motor vehicle accident in Brockton.
Whitfield was observed in a vehicle with significant damage that had a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside.
An empty tequila bottle was observed on the passenger seat floor and a Glock 19X .9mm pistol loaded with 18 rounds was found on the driver’s side floorboard between Whitfield’s legs.
Whitfield is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his previous conviction.
He was sentenced to time served (one day) to be followed by three years of supervised release.
