Meet our Pet of the Week, Daphne and Velma

by | Apr 20, 2025 | Pet of the Week

It’s difficult to fathom the story behind these sweet sister pups, Daphne and Velma. Someone came upon an abandoned box on the side of the road in Berkley, and found several puppies left to their own demise. These puppies were only 9 weeks old at the time. This sad tale is a reminder of the importance of our local shelters and pet adoption.

Daphne and Velma’s brothers were adopted, and now it is time for someone to take the bonded sisters home. They are 15 weeks old now, both believed to be of the Yorkie Mix breed, fully vaccinated, and in the care of WAGS Animal Rescue.

Daphne and Velma are both very loving sisters – they are bonded and will be a great friend to all as they get along with kids, cats, and other dogs.

Please consider bringing these lovely sisters home – they will complete your household with their love, affection, and cuteness.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Step one is our application also available on our website, and here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/MAWA/Dog
  • Our Chief Animal Officer then has an initial conversation with any applicant to determine the best possible match. As a foster based rescue (meaning we do not have a facility; all of our pups are placed in foster homes until their forever homes are found), we work very hard at this initial assessment phase in order to make the best match between human and pup. Not spending sufficient time at the front end often leads to an inappropriate match potentially leading to disruption, requiring a pup to be rehomed, which is devastating for both the humans and the pup. Our contract requires that for the life of the pup, should the adoptive family not be able to keep the pup for ANY reason, the pup must be returned to WAGS.
  • Once we find a potential match, we conduct a review of the home and yard of the potential adopter, which can be done remotely
  • We check veterinary references for any previous pet owned.
  • We schedule an in person meeting with the adoptive pup, including meets and greets with any other animals in the home.
  • If all goes well, we have a successful adoption!

Foster homes have first chance at adopting any pup they foster, and are approved the same way we approve adopters.
