In Plymouth: So at the very end of the Select Board agenda for the meeting of May 27th, an item is routinely listed on the agenda as: New Business/Letters/Old Business. This is when Selectman Chair Kevin Canty chose to announce that he has set up what is labeled “Town Hall on the Road.” This calls for a succession of Select Board meetings at various locations in town. Selectman Dick Quintal objected to the matter being an announcement rather than an agenda item for discussion and vote.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark has more…
Selectman Dick Quintal:
“Mr. Canty announced that he was going to start having Select Board meetings around different locations throughout the community. I asked the chairman, could I have this as a docket item so we could discuss this as a board, five members. He totally ignored me—rejected my request.”
So why did Selectman Chair Kevin Canty choose to ignore Selectman Quintal and his request, Canty has this to say:
“Scheduling an agenda and setting the time, date and place of an agenda is a standard practice of a chair of a committee and does not require a board vote so I found Dick’s request to be unusual and against standard practice and procedure.”
During the meeting Selectman Quintal expressed concern about the logistics of a series of movable meetings:
“We have staff, we have all our records at Town Hall, and it goes on and on and on.”
And indeed it does, so Town Manager Derek Brindisi has assembled an advance team…
“…this team will be lead by our Communications Coordinator Casey Kennedy, and she will assemble a representative from the Department of Public Works, the IT Dept., The Local Scene–and some of the locations include school buildings. So when we go to those buildings, we’ve also have included someone from school administration.”
The first on the road Select Board meeting is scheduled for June 10th at the Cedarville Community Center.
