Karen Read has been found not guilty of second-degree murder of her Boston police officer boyfriend John O’Keefe but was found guilty of the lesser charge of drunk driving.
The jury reached the verdict this afternoon after deliberating for at least 22 hours since June 13 in her retrial.
Read was given one year probation on the drunk driving charge.
Read is accused of striking O’Keefe with her SUV and leaving him to die in a snowstorm outside a Canton home in January 2022.
Her defense says she was framed by certain law enforcement members and that others are responsible for O’Keefe’s death.
The verdict comes nearly a year after her first trial last summer ended in a hung jury.
The case attracted international attention, with many people siding with the defense argument that Read was framed by police.
