Marshfield voters overwhelmingly approved a debt exclusion override to the fund the replacement of the Martinson Elementary School roof.

There were 1,036 in favor of the project and 380 opposed in Saturday’s special election.

The $7.4 million project involves replacing the entire roof that is nearly 30 years old.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority will pay about half the cost under the accelerated repair program. The final cost to the town is just over $3.7 million.

Officials have said the deteriorating roof has been leaking and is in need of immediate repair.

The project could begin in late June and be completed by September.
