Resignation follows Contentious Joint Meeting

Marshfield select board member Trish Simpson has resigned her position.

The resignation follows last night’s often contentious joint meeting of the select board and advisory board where three budget options were proposed, include two that call for overrides to bridge a $7 million budget shortfall.

In a statement today, Simpson said that “after careful consideration, I have decided to step down from my position. I came into this role committed to real reform and to supporting a transparent, responsible budgeting process.”

“The interim town administrator made it clear that, until recently, there was no true budget framework in place. Every department needs to be open and honest and find creative ways to make necessary budget cuts in order to be fair to residents..”

Her statement continued,” Without that shared commitment, it becomes impossible to move the town toward responsible, sustainable financial management..

“I have always said that I am not a politician. I stepped forward to serve, not to engage in hostility or to accept disrespect. When constructive dialogue is replaced with rudeness, it becomes impossible to do the work the community deserves.”

“It has been an honor to contribute, and I remain proud of the effort and integrity i brought to this position. I sincerely hope the town finds a path toward the reform and accountability that will strengthen its future.”
