A shelter-in-place order was issued at Milton High School on Friday.
Milton Police say that at around 9 a.m. an individual walked into the station and reported finding a loaded handgun on the sidewalk in the 700 block of Canton Ave.
They notified school officials who say that, even though the incident was off-campus, they issued a shelter-in-place at the High School out of an abundance of caution.
Police say that officers cleared the area with assistance from K9 units from the Quincy Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.
The shelter in place was lifted shortly before 10:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported and classes were conducted as normal.
