A Whitman man was arrested on drug charges Monday afternoon.

Whitman Police say they were investigating a domestic assault and an ensuing restraining order against 57-year-old Stephen Francis Quinn and a search warrant for a gun he was believed to be possessing.

Detectives detained Quinn just after 2 p.m. outside 31 Nursey St. and conducted a search where they found a hide-a-key container in his pocket that contained eight individually wrapped clear plastic baggies of cocaine.

Police say a search of his home uncovered a Taurus .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun, which was loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, under a bedroom mattress.

Following the discovery of drugs an additional search warrant was obtained and a search conducted with a K9 from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office which resulted in the discovery of a plastic baggie containing a white powder believed to be cocaine in a jacket pocket, drug paraphernalia and over $3,500 in cash.

Quinn was arraigned Tuesday in Brockton District Court on charges including Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug and Possession of a Firearm Without a Firearms Identification Card.

His bail was set at $500.
