A powerful, slow-moving nor’easter battered the Massachusetts coast including the South Shore this weekend with gusty winds, bands of heavy rain, minor coastal flooding, power outages, and beach erosion.
Power outages were reported in Marshfield, Scituate, Hanover, Duxbury, Quincy, Rockland, Norwell, East Bridgewater, Halifax, Cohasset, Pembroke, Plymouth, Kingston, and Brockton.
At the peak of the storm, Massachusetts Emergency Management reported nearly 70,000 customers in Massachusetts were without power.
Most power was restored by late last night. (Sunday)
Waves crashed over seawalls in some communities during the height of the storm, but no major flooding was reported.
Some coastal streets were covered with debris and seafoam.
Pounding waves damaged a seawall and the foundation of a home in Humarock and a neighboring home’s roof was damaged by the high winds.
Winds gusted over 50 miles per hour in several South Shore towns, including Scituate, Cohasset, and Hull.
Several communities reported trees and limbs down.
The high winds toppled a utility pole on Milton Street in Quincy. The pole fell onto a parked car.
Around six inches of rain fell across most of the South Shore but no serious street flooding was reported.
