An off duty Marshfield Police Officer, Richard Perry, involved in a serious head-on motor vehicle crash is on leave while the crash is investigated.

On Sunday night at 9:09 pm Marshfield Police and Fire responded to the crash involving a Jeep and two other vehicles, on Plain Street (Rt.139)

According to Marshfield Police:

“A preliminary investigation indicated that the Jeep was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed and passed a town truck by crossing over the solid double yellow lines into the eastbound lane. The Jeep then attempted to pass a second vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, again crossing the solid double yellow lines and struck an eastbound Honda Civic head on. The Hyundai Elantra was also struck in the collision”

The operator of the Jeep has been identified as the off duty Marshfield Police Officer, Richard Perry.

The operator of the Jeep and Honda Civic were transported to hospitals with serious injuries.

The Civic operator had to be cut out of the vehicle.

Perry has been placed on administrative leave, effective immediately after the crash–a criminal investigation using an independent third party will be conducting an internal investigation.

The Massachusetts Post Commission, which certifies, trains, and disciplines all police officers, was also notified

As of now, Marshfield Police are seeking criminal charges for Reckless Operation of a motor vehicle, 2 counts marked lanes violation, and speed greater than reasonable and proper.

Additional charges may be filed pending the conclusion of the investigation and toxicology report from the State Police Crime Lab.
