New Members Elected to Select Board, School Committee
Cohasset voters rejected a proposal to fund a new public safety building at Saturday’s town election.
The debt exclusion was defeated by 185 votes, with 900 opposed and 715 in favor.
The thirty-two-million-dollar public safety building plan was given the green light at last Monday’s town meeting and required approval at Saturday’s election to move forward.
There were two contested races.
Gregory Watts was elected to fill a two-year unexpired term on the select board.
Watts topped the three-way race with 690 votes, defeating challengers Jennifer Chu who had 604 votes, and Carol Bestick, with 233.
In the school committee race, Jennifer Lesky bested Victoria Lattanzi, 747 to 726, to win a seat.
Danielle Ziady ran unopposed to fill an unexpired term on the school committee.
Incumbent select board member Ellen Maher was reelected and will be joined by newcomer William Ashton, both running unopposed for two seats.
All the other races were unopposed.
Twenty-six percent, or 1,679 voters turned out at the polls.
