The Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Unit retrieved a dead body Thursday afternoon near a water treatment plant in Brockton.

District Attorney Timothy Cruz announced in a press release that State Police and Brockton Police responded to reports of a dead body discovered floating in a river near the Brockton Public Works Department.

Employees with the DPW contacted police after spotting what they believed to be a body in a water trap at the facility on Oak Hill Way around 5 p.m.

The body has yet to be identified.

Authorities say the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Just two years ago, two men were found dead at the same Brockton water plant.

Authorities do not believe the cases are connected at this time.
