Plymouth County: Federal Government Awards County $90 Million Grant

by | Apr 30, 2020 | News

April 15th Plymouth County received notice it had successfully bid for a $90 million grant from the federal government.

The money is intended to help cities and towns lessen the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their budgets. Other governments also applied for the grants, including the commonwealth. When the state learned counties and the city of Boston had won grant awards, officials asked them to relinquish the funds. Plymouth County and Boston decided not to. The federal government allocated more than $200 million to the county, of which county government is eligible to control 45 percent. Plymouth County has claimed that control. Here’s Chair of County Commissioners Dan Pallotta.

“I don’t want anyone to think we have all the answers, we don’t, and neither does the Commonwealth. We are in the process of getting all the answers and each day that goes by we are one step closer to launching this program,” said Pallotta.

The commissioners will take questions from the county advisory board Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.
