In Halifax, a brief public forum was held for an outdoor marijuana cultivation facility.
The state Cannabis Control Commission sent a letter to the Halifax Selectmen, seeking clarification on zoning for the site proposed for Buds Goods, a cultivation and processing facility.
The 100,000 square foot facility is proposed for 111 River Street.
Town Administrator Charlie Seelig says the Selectmen could not make a determination, as the CCC did not give the town the application that Buds Goods filed.
“It looks like it’s agricultural, but it’s actually zoned industrial here in Halifax and in by industrial land for a marijuana farm, you can allow it by a special permit,” said Seelig. “There may be questions in terms of flood plain, there may be questions about obnoxious uses and such, but in general it’s allowed. They’ll have to have a special permit, they’ll have to do site plan review. But what the Board said was in essence, we can’t say yes or no specifically, because [the CCC] didn’t give us enough information.”
Buds Goods needs a provisional license from the CCC, then approval from the town Planning and Zoning Boards.
“All those are going to be public meetings, the public is going to be specifically invited to participate in those meetings,” said Seelig. “I’m not sure how we’re going to run them, given COVID and such. How much we’re going to do virtual, how much we’re going to do in-person. One way or the other, the public is going to be able to participate.”
