A guilty plea was entered by a Whitman man facing charges in connection with a crash that left a Carver man dead.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday that 54-year-old Alec Dowie pleaded guilty to one count of Motor Vehicle Manslaughter by Operating Under the Influence, third offense and Operating Under the Influence.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on February 6, 2018 when emergency crews in Halifax responded to the area of 38 Monponsett St. for a report of a two-car crash.
Officers arrived on scene and found that a 2018 Dodge Challenger, driven by Dowie, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2005 Honda CRV being driven by 78-year-old Richard March.
Both drivers were hospitalized, with March being transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation determined that Dowie had a Blood Alcohol Content Level of 0.084 and tested positive for opiates and had metabolites of Cocaine and marijuana in his system.
Dowie was sentenced to eight years to 8 ½ years in State Prison for the Motor Vehicle Manslaughter charge, and four to five years on the OUI to run concurrent.
