Taking place today in Marshfield, the Daniel Webster VFW Post will be holding a drive-thru poppy drive.
Post Commander Kevin Feyler says people can stop by the post at 655 Main Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Route 3A in Marshfield.
“We usually do this on Memorial Day, due to the COVID-19 crisis, we were unable to do our fundraiser,” said Feyler. “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, it backs up all of our scholarships which we hand out to the high school students. The poppy signifies the duty, honor, and passing of veterans.”
The scholarships are for essays such as the Patriot’s Pen, where students can receive $500 or $5,000 if they win at a national level. Students of veteran parents are eligible for scholarships of up to $1,000 — between the Daniel Webster Post and the VFW Auxiliary.
The post normally holds the drive outside of supermarkets in town. But COVID-19 restrictions have forced them to try a socially-distant approach.
“Today’s poppy drive, you can drive-through and make a donation. We’ll hand you the poppy on a net, so there’s no contact between us and you,” said Feyler.
For those who can’t make it Saturday, the drive-thru event will be taking place Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donations can also be made anytime, more information can be found at the Daniel Webster VFW Post 8345 on Facebook.
“We just want everybody to come down, you can wish us a happy Veterans Day. We’ll take any donations and if you don’t have money to donate, we’ll be glad to give you a poppy,” said Feyler. “I just want to get this out to the public and say thank you for supporting the Daniel Webster VFW Post.”
