The Duxbury Select Board met for the first time as a 5-member board this week as new members take on the ongoing football team scandal.

WATD’s David Cedrone has more:

The virtual select board meeting was packed this week with over 100 people listening to what the town plans to do regarding the on-going controversy with the football team.

Coach Dave Maimaron was fired last Wednesday after news broke of the team using anti-Semitic language for on-field play calling.

Duxbury School Superintendent Dr. John Antonucci was at the meeting and says an independent investigation starts this week but wants to warn the public about speculation.

Duxbury resident and private college admissions councilor Christine Hill was called into the meeting and says its not just happening on the football team and wants the town to get to the bottom of the issue.

Select board chair Amy McNabb says the town will review policies and procedures to make changes now.

The scandal broke in Duxbury after players on the team were heard using anti-Semitic terms during the game with Plymouth North last week and has made national headlines.
