A man with ties to Brockton has died following a police chase through several South Shore towns and involved a stolen Rockland Police cruiser.

Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey says the event started with a robbery in Rockland Thursday night and ended at a Quincy gas station Friday morning.

Morrissey says the suspect, 36-year-old Eric M. Leach, then emerged from the cruiser with a service rifle.

Mark Fernandes of Fall River was getting his car repaired at a nearby business when he saw the incident unfold.

Morrissey says crews initiated aid on scene before Leach was transported to Boston Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
