A Weymouth man is facing charges after he allegedly crashed into a police cruiser.
Hingham Police say that shortly after 2:45 p.m. Saturday an Officer in a marked police cruiser was stopped in traffic on Whiting St. waiting to turn left when a car struck the cruiser from behind.
The driver, identified as 39-year-old Adilson Gomes Barreiro, and the Officer were wearing seat belts and were not injured.
The car, a 2002 Nissan Altima, sustained heavy front end damage and was towed from the scene.
The police cruiser, a 2021 Ford Explorer, sustained rear end damage but was not towed.
Police say it appears Gomes Barreiro did not apply the brakes prior to the crash
He is being charged with Unlicensed Operation and Failure to Use Care when Slowing/Stopping.
Police also say Gomes Barreiro never had a Massachusetts driver’s license.
