A Marshfield man is being charged with a third OUI following a crash in Cohasset on Thursday afternoon.
Police Chief William Quigley says shortly before 4 p.m. officers responded to the area of 739 Chief Justice Cushing Highway for a report of a motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, they saw a red 2021 Ram 1500 with rear-end damage and a black 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 with heavy front-end damage.
Neither of the drivers reported injuries.
An investigation determined that a vehicle traveling in front of the Ram 1500 had stopped abruptly, resulting in the driver of the Mercedes-Benz CLS550 traveling behind the Ram 1500, later identified as 51-year-old Robert Reilly, to brake quickly as well.
He was unable to stop in time and allegedly rear-ended the Ram 1500.
Quigley says that the officers noticed that Reilly allegedly had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol coming from him.
Reilly then agreed to multiple field sobriety tests, which he failed.
He was taken into custody and was expected to be arraigned Friday in Quincy District Court on charges of Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (Third Offense); Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle; and State Highway Traffic Violation (Following Too Closely)
