At the Scituate Special Town Meeting, voters approved the location of the new water treatment plant.
Select Board Vice-Chair, Andrew Goodrich, has been advocating for clean water in town, it was one of the issues that led to his decision to run in 2020.
On Monday, Goodrich told WATD, that the town is out of state compliance for water standards. There have been safety warnings, and brown water has been plaguing the town for years.
Scituate resident, Emily Simmer, spoke in favor of the plant during the meeting. She said that the town will be able to rest the water supply in wells, and let them recharge.
She also said that the town will be able to use the plant in the winter, with an updated design.
By a majority vote, residents approved the sighting of the $50 million water treatment plant, which is scheduled to be completed in September 2026.
The Scituate Special Town Meeting concluded in one night.
