A fire in Braintree claims the life of 85-year-old man.

The victim has been identified as John Sullivan.

The Braintree Fire Department said a passerby called 911 shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday to report the fire at 29 Hobart Ave.

When firefighters arrived they were met with heavy flames and smoke when they entered the building which, along with structural issues, forced crews back outside.

A second alarm was then struck.

As crews searched the home, they found the victim dead in a room on the second floor that was adjacent to the room where the fire was primarily burning.

There was no one else inside of the home at the time of the fire.
