Second Time Propsoal Turned Down
Voters again rejected the proposed $288 million Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School building project on Saturday.
The five member towns voted 3,112 against the project and 1,923 in favor.
Mattapoisett was the only town supporting the project.
Voters in Lakeville, Carver, Rochester, and Acushnet were opposed.
Voters in November also turned down the proposed project.
Old Colony officials have said a new school is needed to accommodate an increasing student population and provide modern classroom equipment.
Opponents were concerned over increased costs to the district towns.
School officials said they will evaluate their next steps in the wake of the project’s defeat.
