Poor Air Quality Likely Next few Days
A smoke plume from wildfires in Canada and Minnesota is causing hazy skies and poor air quality in the Boston area including on the South Shore.
The Massachusetts Environmental Protection Agency issued an air quality alert through midnight for fine particulates in the air.
The smoke drifted low today where it can be smelled at ground level and created a thick, eerie haze.
Authorities recommend that those with chronic health issues including respiratory problems should limit time outdoors.
They also recommend keeping windows closed and using air conditioning.
Fine particulate pollution can cause coughing, itchy eyes, trouble breathing, and fatigue.
The smoke plume is expected to be with us for the next few days.
