A Pembroke man who graduated as top sailor from the Recruit Training Command at the Great Lakes has earned the Military Excellence Award.
Navy Fireman Michael Leahy said the honor is a daily standard he intends to hold himself to and that he will perform to the best of his ability.
Prior to studying at the Recruit Training Command, Leahy attended Mass Maritime Academy.
He will report to electrician’s mate school where he will be trained to operate, test and repair equipment that support the Navy’s nuclear propulsion systems.
The Military Excellence Award is presented to the recruit who best demonstrates enthusiasm, devotion to duty, military bearing and teamwork throughout training.
As part of the recognition, recipients receive a flag letter of commendation.
