A driver narrowly escaped injury after his car was struck by a commuter train in Cohasset.
Police Chief William Quigley says that around 12:20 Sunday morning, the driver of a delivery vehicle made a wrong turn onto the North Main Street Greenbush commuter rail crossing and became struck on the tracks.
The 33-year-old driver from Mansfield saw the approaching train and was able to get out of the vehicle and move to safety before the collision.
He was not hurt.
The commuter train struck the sedan and came to a stop just before the Cohasset MBTA Commuter Station.
The car sustained significant damage and was totaled.
None of the 15 passengers on board was injured.
The train was heading toward Scituate.
North Main Street was closed for over two hours while Cohasset and MBTA Transit police conducted an investigation.
Chief Quigley praised the quick actions of the driver to exit his vehicle before it was struck by the train.
