Senator Ed Markey and Congressman Stephen Lynch fended off opponents to win their respective races in Tuesday’s Primary Election while a tight race was shaping up for Norfolk County District Attorney, and Marshfield voters defeated a $7 million override.
Michael Minogue defeated challenger Brian Shortsleeve in the Republican governor’s race to face incumbent Democrat Governor Maura Healey in the November 3rd election.
Healey ran unopposed.
Minogue beat Shortsleeve 76% to 24%.
Longtime Congressman Stephen Lynch fended off his opponent Patrick Roath to win the Eighth Congressional Democrat nomination 54% to 45%.
Congressman Bill Keating handedly defeated Craig Swallow 75% to 24% in the Ninth Congressional District Democratic race.
Democrat Senator Ed Markey beat challenger Seth Moulton, 65% to 34%.
Djuna Perkins, a former prosecutor and Dedham attorney, has the lead in the seven-candidate Norfolk County District Attorney’s Democratic race with more than 29 percent of the vote. Although the race hasn’t been called yet, Perkins made a post on her Facebook page saying “We did it!” and that she is celebrating “this historic win for justice, but we will immediately get back to work on the campaign trail.”
As of early this morning, the Associated Press is reporting that Perkins has a roughly 2,000 vote lead over her closest opponent Adam Deitch of Quincy who has 26 percent, Greg Connor of Milton, Macy Lee of Milton, Robert Jubinville, also of Milton, Jim Barakat of Braintree, and Craig MacLellan of Cohasset, are trailing.
Longtime DA Michael Morrissey is not seeking reelection.
The Associated Press has declared incumbent William Driscoll of Milton the winner in the Norfolk, Plymouth and Bristol Democratic Senate Race over challengers Tony King and Michael Zullas, both also of Milton with Driscoll getting over 61 percent of the vote and Driscoll also declared victory on his Facebook page.
In a tight contest for Second Plymouth District Republican representative,the Associated Press is reporting that incumbent John Gaskey has a roughly five point lead over challenger Mark Townsend, 52% to 47%.
Fourth Plymouth District Democratic Representative Patrick Kearney beat challenger Kathleen Baxter 71% to 28%.
Incumbent Democrat Fourth District Governor’s Councilor Christopher Ianelli beat Ronald Iacobucci 59% to 40%.
Tenth Plymouth District Democratic incumbent Representative Michelle DuBois fended off challenger Tony Rodrigues, 77% to 23%.
Plymouth County Commission Republican incumbent Sandra Wright of Bridgewater was defeated by challenger Tony O’Brien of Pembroke, 7,510 to 5,970. Korey Welch of Rockland was third with 3,041.
Democratic candidate Rhonda Nyman ran unopposed.
Seventh Norfolk District Democrat Representative Richard Wells of Milton fended off opponent Clinton Graham, also of Milton, 57% to 42%.
Lisa Lopez of Canton defeated Stephen Cavey of Stoughton 56% to 30% in the Democratic Sixth Norfolk representative race with Michael Loughran of Canton placing third.
Democrat Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden beat Linda champion 51% to 27% with former DA, Rachel Rollins, receiving 23%.
Cape & Islands District Attorney Rob Galibois fended off challenger Mike Giardino by over 1,000 votes in the democratic race.
