Affordable Housing Tops the List of CPC Articles for Plymouth Town Meeting to Consider

by | Mar 29, 2021 | News

In Plymouth, the Community Preservation Committee, or CPC, has a wide range of articles to recommend to the Annual Spring and Special Town Meeting.

Bobbi Clark has more:

Bill Keohan who Chairs the Community Preservation Committee, says Article 16A is an affordable housing recommendation…

“… where we’re recommending in excess of a million dollars to create nearly 20 affordable units in a new development in west Plymouth. This is a partnership between a private developer in the town through Community Preservation Funds to maximize the effect of those dollars in creating units.”

Keohan says Article 16B is a follow up to an article back in 2018…

“…where we committed over two million dollars to the restoration of the National Pilgrim Memorial Meeting House. That is the big stone building in our Town Square, which is now part of the museum of the Mayflower Society.”

Article 16C is to fund the extension of the North Plymouth Rail Trail to bring it closer to downtown Plymouth.

“It has a breathtaking view of Plymouth Harbor, so it’s also known as the Seaside Rail Trail.”

The CPC will be working with the Department of Environmental Affairs on this project.  Article 16E sets aside money…

“…in an endowment for the Wildlands Trust of South Eastern Massachusetts to oversee the conservation restrictions that we have placed on nearly 2000 acres of land over the last 18 years.”

Article 9 in Special Town Meeting provides funds to create a foot-bridge…

“over Town Brook at the location of Westerly Road and Billington Sea.”

Town Meeting begins, via Zoom on Saturday, April 3rd.
