Eleven South Shore towns held their annual elections Saturday.
Five of those towns, Norwell, Hanover, Hanson, Whitman, and Plymption had overrides.
In Norwell, the $3.7 million budget override failed by 134 votes, 1,835 opposed, 1,701 in favor, while the South Shore Regional Technical School override was approved by 755 votes, 2,075 to 1,319.
Hanover’s $3.7 million override was approved by 1,053 votes, 3,118 to 2,065, while Hanson’s $3 million override to hire more firefighters and bridge a budget gap was rejected by 431 votes.
In Whitman, the $2 million override was defeated by 1,001 votes. A ballot question to have the treasurer/collector appointed rather than elected was rejected by 356 votes.
Plympton’s override to fund a new fire station was defeated, 416 to 272.
In the Plymouth selectboard race, newcomers Bill Keohan and Deb Iaquinto defeated incumbents John Mahoney Jr. and Charlie Bletzer.
Keohan had the top votes with 4,638 while Iaquinto received 3,575. Bletzer had 2,206, Mahoney, 2,668, and challenger Scott Vecchi 1,465.
School committee incumbent Luis Pizano was reelected with 4,478 votes who will be joined by newcomer Paul Samardgedlis who received 2,976. Challengers Michaela Der Kinderen had 2,803 and Hunter Young, 2,322.
In the school committee race for a one year term, Christina Bryant defeated Deborah Dugan, 3,668 to 2,626.
Plymouth planning board’s new member is Francis Mand who defeated Thomas Jacintho Jr., 3,858 to 2,837.
Plymouth voters rejected a proposal to remove the police department from Civil Service with 4,143 opposed and 3,424 in favor.
A non-binding question to have the town contact state officials to stop Holtec’s plan to discharge radioactive water from the closed Pilgrim Nuclear Plant into Cape Cod Bay was overwhelmingly approved, 6,938 to 638.
Norwell has two new selectboard members, John McGrath and Lorenda Lane.
McGrath topped the race with 1,892 votes and Layne received 1,853 to win the two seats beating Mark Cleveland’s 1,548.
Board of assessors incumbent Mary Granville beat challenger Sean Joyce by 258 votes.
Norwell has a new town clerk, Dannielle Shepherd, who ran unopposed.
In Pembroke. Sean Keegan defeated selectboard incumbent Steven Ciciotti by 196 votes.
Board of health incumbent Maureen Jasie was ousted by Melissa Killham who won by 199 votes.
Library trustee incumbent Sharon Stearns won reelection with 925 votes. She will be joined by Erin Petti who won an open seat defeating Kathleen Benvie, 1,189 to 807.
Katrina Scarsciotti is the new member of the school committee beating challenger Jennifer Graziano by 945 votes.
Plympton selectman incumbent John Traynor Jr. was defeated by Nathaniel Sides, 525 to 491.
In Whitman’s only contested race, DPW commissioner incumbents Kevin Cleary and Mark Poirier defeated challenger Thomas Pistorino.
Cleary received 1,220 votes and Poirier, 1,167, while Pistorino received 1,093 votes.
Hanover selectboard’s new member is Rachel Hughes. She defeated Nicholas Spoisino 2,957 to 2,094.
In the Hanover school committee race, Christopher Tracy beat Andrea Hammett 3,268 to 1,431.
Library trustees incumbent Tammy Tedeschi was defeated by Steven Henderson, 2,314 to 2,157.
Hanson water commissioner incumbents Gilbert Amado and Donald Howard were reelected, defeating challenger Kevin Perkins. Amado had 949 votes, Howard 941, and Perkins 723.
In a close Whitman-Hanson Regional School District Committee race for two seats, incumbent Glen DiGravio was reelected but incumbent Stephen Cloutman was beaten by challenger Thomas Roffey Jr. DiGravio received the most votes, 907, while Roffey received 905. Cloutman garnered 850 votes.
In Cohasset, Birgit Schmidt-Wesche is the new planning board member, beating Nino DiNunno Jr. by 147 votes.
Pratt Memorial Library trustees incumbents Elain Breslow and Alexander Viteri were reelected receiving 434 and 374 votes respectively. Susan Hobson Putzger was elected to the third seat with 411 votes beating Melissa Mendenhall who had 295.
James McNeil is Cohasset’s new sewer commissioner, beating challengers Francis Collins by four votes and William McGowan by 50 votes.
Kingston has a new selectman. Carl Pike beat challenger Jesse Pyne, 388 to 135.
Kingston board of health incumbent Joseph Casna Jr. was reelected with 311 but newcomer Rosemary Donahoe ousted incumbent William Kavol, 329 to 237.
Halifax has a new selectman. William Smith defeated Gordon Andrews 381 to 247.
Library trustees incumbents Susan Hill and Erin Nagle were reelected, receiving 383 and 356 votes respectively, defeating challenger Rodney Hemingway who received 228 votes.
Constable incumbent Thomas Hammond was reelected receiving 343 votes and will be joined by Jake Okerfelt who had 356 votes. They defeated Michael Schleiff, who had 231.
The East Bridgewater school committee race with candidates Aron Danielson, Christie Layton, and Elizabeth Stansel are not yet available.
