Resignaton Comes One Day After Select Board Member Steps Down
Marshfield interim town administrator Charles Sumner has resigned.
In a letter to the select board on Friday, Sumner said that recent events have made him reconsider his effectiveness in his role as interim town administrator.
He also said “that it was a pleasure working with so many wonderful employees and volunteers over the past several months during what is obviously a difficult period facing the community.”
Sumner has been serving as a part-time interim town administrator since October and has shared duties with Peter Morin.
Morin was hired nearly a year ago to step in as an interim town administrator after Michael Maresco left his position.
Morin will continue as an interim, part-time town administrator.
Sumner’s resignation comes one day after select board member Trish Simpson announced she is stepping down.
She voiced frustration with the budget process and that town departments need to make necessary budget cuts that are fair to residents.
The resignations follow Wednesday’s contentious joint meeting of the select board and advisory board where frustrations boiled over that the town budget presentations missed several deadlines and that the town is facing a $7 million dollar shortfall.
Three budget options were proposed to be presented to town meeting on June 15th.
Two of those options propose overrides.
The non-budget articles will be taken up on Monday, April 27th.
