A man is being charged with vandalizing Brockton District Court.
Sixty-two-year-old Andrew Steele of Washington pleaded not guilty to vandalism on Monday.
He was held on $5,000 cash bail and ordered to undergo a full evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz says that at about 2 a.m. Monday, Brockton police were called to the courthouse for a person tagging the building.
When officers arrived they encountered the caller, later identified as Steele, who told them he spray painted the courthouse in protest for personal reasons.
Police say he spray painted the words “lives harmed here” in multiple places on the outside of the building.
Officers located several spray paint cans.
Steele was taken into custody without incident.
